Technical Regulations

1. General Information

DECHEMA e.V. is responsible for the overall design of the exhibition grounds.

The design of the individual exhibition stands is the responsibility of the exhibitors. Stand design and construction are subject to the Technical Regu-lations, prevailing laws, safety provisions and official regulations. Our Technical Services team will be pleased to assist you with stand planning.

Outside the stand limits no publicity activities of any kind may take place on the exhibition grounds. The use of persons for publicity purposes and the distribution or posting of any kind of advertising material on the exhibition grounds, in the direct vicinity of the exhibition grounds, and in the fair car parks are also subject to this ruling. It is also prohibited to carry out surveys, tests, competitions (raffles), and contests outside the stand. Live animals may not be exhibited.

1.1 Assembly

Regular assembly period: 08 May 2006 7 a.m. until
  14 May 2006 2 pm

During this period work can be carried out round the clock.

Please note: bulky stand components and exhibits must be moved onto the stand by 5 May 2006 at the latest in order to avoid disrupting adjacent stands.

The DECHEMA service team will be available to you in Hall 4 C from 8 am - 8 pm daily. Our ACHEMA crew for assembly and dismantling will be in every hall throughout the day.

Should it be necessary to begin erecting your stand before 8 May 2006, please simply inform us by fax or e-mail. We will be pleased to give you special permission to commence stand erection earlier, providing this does not interfere with the organization.

On 14 May 2006, from 12 noon onwards no vehicles will have access to the exhibition grounds.
From 2 pm the exhibition premises will be cleaned and carpeting laid in the aisles. For this reason, all packaging must be removed from the stand and all vehicles outside the designated parking areas have left the grounds by this time. It will of course be possible to add the finishing touches to your stand.

DECHEMA is entitled to make alternative arrangements for stands not occupied by 2 pm on 14 May 2006 without the exhibitor having the right to claim damages. The exhibitor will be fully liable and will be charged for any additional work caused by late arrival and unpacking.

1.2 Dismantling

Dismantling period: 19 May 2006 approx. 7.30 pm - midnight
(entry for vehicles up to 7.49 t total permissible weight)
  20 May 2006 6 am to
  23. May 2006 12 noon

The exhibition ends at 6 pm on 19 May 2006. Exhibitors may begin to dismantle stand structures directly after the exhibition has ended, but not earlier. As soon as the carpeting has been removed from the aisles, vehicles up to 7.49 t may be driven from Rebstockgelände (parking area) onto the exhibition grounds (from approx. 7.30 pm).

When planning your schedule, please note that the exhibition grounds will be closed from midnight on 19 May 2006 until 6 am on 20 May 2006 so that the appointed forwarding agents can deliver storage containers without hindrance or danger. For safety reasons we urgently advise you not to remain on the stand during this period. You are recommended to order stand security in good time. Any vehicles found on the premises after midnight will be towed away at the owner's expense.

Storage containers will not be available until Saturday, 20 May 2006. We recommend you to order fork-lifts, cranes, etc. for 20 May 2006 in advance.

With the exception of the night from 19 to 20 May 2006, during the dismantling period work can be carried out round the clock.

Despite logistics being constantly improved considerable delays can be expected. We will endeavour to ensure that the flow of traffic is as efficient as possible. Our traffic guide will be sent to you approximately four weeks before the event commences. Please observe the entry regulations and the directions provided by the traffic police so that proceedings run as smoothly as possible. Please note for your planning that in Germany for heavy vehicles of over 7.49 t you need a special permit to drive on a Sunday (Sonntagsfahrverbot).

1.3 Take-over and Return of Stand Space

Please check, on arrival, that the condition of your stand space is satisfactory. Should you have any reason for complaint, please inform DECHEMA and the hall official concerned immediately and before starting assembly work. The reason for complaint is to be documented in writing and countersigned by DECHEMA.

At the end of the event, the stand area is to be returned in the same condition as it was found.

We recommend you to request a certificate of inspection from our ACHEMA crew once your stand has been dismantled. This certificate is proof that no damage or waste was left on your stand space.

If no certificate of inspection can be presented for a stand area found to be damaged, DECHEMA will be entitled to invoice the exhibitor for the cost of restoring the stand to order without prior notification or recognition of a claim. This also applies to the removal of refuse.

Any items, including refuse, left in the halls or the outdoor area will be disposed of at the exhibitor's own risk and expense.

1.4 Damage or Theft

DECHEMA is not liable for any damage to exhibits and stand construction materials that occurs as a result of burglary or theft. Please notify the hall service concerned or our Service Centre in Hall 4C of any damage. We will be pleased to assist you in documenting the damage.

In the case of damage to the buildings or other facilities on the exhibition grounds, the persons who caused the damage must inform the relevant hall service without delay. The hall service is responsible for ordering the repairs and for handling the damage. Any costs will be charged to the persons who caused the damage on a time and material basis.

Cases of theft or burglary must be reported before any claim can be submitted to your insurance company.
A police post will be located in Hall 4.2, Nord-West (north-west) from 15 - 20 May 2006, (Tel. +49-(0)69-7 55-4 13 10). If you need assistance outside this time, please contact

1.5 Approval

Approval is required:

a ) for all stands over 30 m² with a construction height over 3.50 m
b ) for all stands for which wall constructions extending to the aisles are planned
c ) for all stands with ceilings and those for which additional suspen-sions or blinds are planned
d ) for presentations and demonstrations of any kind
e ) when the installation of high or heavy exhibits and if foundations are intended
f ) when the use of dangerous media is planned
g ) for all stands in the outdoor area

Only plans bearing DECHEMA's approval stamp entitle the exhibitor to erect the stand taking into account any conditions imposed.

The relevant forms are under the button 'Approval Stand Construction / Exhib-its. Please submit the forms that are applicable to your case with the docu-mentation specified:

Deadline: 28 February 2006

Stands with a maximum stand height of up to 3.50 m, to which none of the above-mentioned points applies and that are planned in accordance with the Technical Guidelines, do not require approval.

When ordering ceiling suspensions, electrical, water, compressed air and gas connections, please do not fail to submit floor plans with exact dimensions and positions for the fitters.

If a stand has to be reorganized, please remember to submit the revised con-nection plans along with the other documents for approval so that the service companies can be informed in time.

Failure to comply with the Technical Regulations entitles DECHEMA to demand that the structures or components concerned be removed before or, if neces-sary, after the opening of ACHEMA. Any costs incurred will be borne by the exhibitor. Moreover, DECHEMA is entitled to arrange for the necessary work to be carried out at the exhibitor's cost. If the exhibitor prevents DECHEMA from exercising this right, the ACHEMA Committee has authorized DECHEMA to close the stand and to exclude the exhibitor from taking part in ACHEMA. Claims for damages of any kind are excluded in every case.

Even after plans have been approved DECHEMA may demand changes to the design of stand structures and/or the arrangement of exhibits. If the exhibitor does not comply with this request by the given date, these changes will be undertaken by DECHEMA. This applies in particular to requirements resulting from possible inspection and approval of the exhibition by building inspection and fire prevention authorities and where safety has been found to be inadequate. Any costs incurred will be borne by the exhibitor.

2. Construction Guidelines - Stand Design

As a rule, please note that stand design and demonstrations of any kind may not interfere with or disturb other exhibitors or visitors. The decor must be in keeping with the scientific and technical nature of the exhibition-congress.

The exhibitor is fully responsible for the safety and stability of all constructions and exhibits and may be called upon to demonstrate their safety. It is not permitted to use adjoining stands, company signboards or the existing fabric of the building to stabilize or support stand structures.

On no account may the specified stand dimensions be exceeded; the exhibitor is responsible for adhering to them.

All fire prevention facilities, such as emergency exits, hydrants, fire a-larms, portable fire extinguishers, smoke vents, pull cords, etc., as well as the relevant signs must remain easily accessible and visible. The sprinkler system may not be impaired. A minimum distance of 1 m from the sprinkler head must be observed; in the case of lights and spots the distance must be selected so that the extinguishing installation cannot be accidentally trig-gered off.

Every stand must be equipped with an approved, suitable PG 6 fire extinguisher, fire classes A, B and C (according to EN 3 for class 13 A 89 B).

The hall pillars are permanently clad with exception of hall 3.0 and 10.0. Stand structures and other components may not be attached to this cladding. It is only permissible to build a structure around a pillar provided the stand area is not exceeded or the aisles impeded. Please note that the inspection apertures / switchboxes on the hall supports must remain accessible everywhere.

DECHEMA may approve exceptions to the design guidelines in individual, reasonable cases.

2.1 Company Signboards

For orientation purposes and in order to ensure a unifying ACHEMA image, DECHEMA provides and installs standard signboards (free-standing elements 1.00 x 2.80 m) in the first metre of your stand from the aisle at no extra charge. The signboards may not be modified, removed or attached to a stand construction system. The individual wording of the signboard will be sent to each exhibitor for approval/correction with this book. In the outdoor area company signboards are only provided on request.

Zoom Zoom

2.2 Stand Construction Limits

Zoom

Company signboards will be provided by DECHEMA in the first metre of your stand, see diagram. In order not to obscure the stand number and company name, stand structures may only begin after the company signboard, i.e. at a distance of 1.00 m from the edge of the aisle. Ceiling constructions and fascias may be erected above the company signboard, i.e. above a height of 2.80 m, and extend to the edge of the aisle provided that the company sign remains freestanding and legible.

After consultation with DECHEMA, wall constructions may extend along the aisles, however company signboards must remain visible and the attractiveness of adjacent and opposite stands may not be impaired.

Exhibits and furniture may be installed up to the aisle boundary; company signs must, however, remain clear and legible.

Raised access flooring up to a height of 16 cm may be installed up to the edge of the aisle. Space must be provided in the flooring for company signboards.

Zoom

2.3 Construction Height

Stands consisting of two levels are not permitted in the halls.

For exhibition stands of less than 30 m² the maximum stand construction height is 3.50 m. Above 2.50 m the reverse side of the partitions has to be plain white or grey, and clean. Please note that the company sign provided by DECHEMA has a construction height of 2.80 m; it may not be incorporated into the stand construction.

Due to the low ceiling height, the maximum construction height is lower in halls 10.0 and 10.1 (cf. the button 'Exhibiton Grounds').

For exhibition stands exceeding 30 m² the maximum stand construction height is 6.00 m. This is subject to the clear height of the individual hall levels (see button 'Exhibition Grounds') and to any negative impact on the adjacent stands. Stands whose construction height exceeds 3.50 m require approval without exception. Please submit the relevant form.

Zoom Zoom

Raised access areas may not exceed a height of 1.25 m.

For safety reasons raised access areas which border directly on areas that are more than 0.20 m lower must have balustrades unless they are connected to the lower level by stairs or a ramp. The minimum height of balustrades is 1.10 m.
Balustrades and rails are to be designed so that it is difficult to climb over them. The distance between rails in one direction may not exceed 0.12 m. Handrails must be well secured, non-slipping and not open-ended.
A static certificate for the platform must be provided. The floor load must be designed for 2.0 kN/m² in accordance with DIN 1055, Sheet 3, Table 1, depending on the use. One-step access platforms may not exceed a height of 0.20 m.

2.4 Stand Construction Materials

Stand construction and decorative materials must comply with construction and fire prevention regulations and belong to category B1 (flame-resistant mate-rials according to DIN 4102) or higher. Materials that drip while burning or form toxic gases shall not be employed.
For safety reasons, in individual cases particular requirements may be made of supporting elements.
Proof of the fire-resistant properties of construction materials and compo-nents must be available if requested by the safety authorities or DECHEMA.
Employment of plastic cable ties for fastening statically stressed parts is prohibited.

Fax: +49-(0)69-75 75-63 87

2.4.1 Floor Coverings

All floor coverings must be self-laying. The use of adhesives of any kind is not permitted. Only PE or PP adhesive tape may be used to secure floor cover-ings. After the event the exhibitor must remove all traces of adhesive tape. A general building inspection permit ("allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulas-sung") must supply evidence that the floor covering meets the conditions of category B1 construction materials of DIN 4102, flame-resistant materials. These materials may not be susceptible to smoke emission and toxicity. The exhibitor must produce the relevant documentation to Messe Frankfurt and/or DECHEMA on request.

2.4.2 Glass and Acrylic Glass

Please contact DECHEMA for a copy of the 'Technical data sheet on the use of glass/acrylic glass in fair construction'. Only safety glass may be used for glass constructions. The types of glass approved by the building authorities are listed in the above-mentioned technical data sheet. Please also note that all edges of glass panels must be finished or secured in order to exclude the risk of injury. Structural elements made completely of glass must be marked at eye level.

2.5 Walls

Exhibitors are obliged to provide their own partitions. The reverse sides of partitions must be in impeccable condition and, above a height of 2.50 m, be plain white or grey. In the case of stands located next to hall walls, the relevant parts must be clad. Partitions can be ordered through DECHEMA on request.

2.6 Cabins

Cabins may not exceed a maximum of 50 % of the total stand area.

For safety reasons, conference rooms and rooms for personnel over 100 m² must be equipped with two exits (doors) to the outside.
The individual width of the exits and emergency exits depends on the number of persons involved:

  • less than 200 persons (minimum: 0.90 m)
  • over 200 persons (minimum: 1.20 m), progressing by 0.60 m per each succes-sive 100 persons
German safety regulations BGV A8 (VBG 125) require all emergency exits to be clearly marked.

2.7 Ceilings

Open-style ceilings only may be used on all hall levels.

They include:
- all ceilings where at least 50 % of covered area per m² is open
- chessboard-style open grid ceilings (max. 1.00 x 1.00 m)
- louvered ceilings with solid elements of 0.50 m maximum width
- flat coverings, provided the covered area does not exceed a width of 1.00 m and the first 1.50 metre to the adjacent stand remain open
- sprinkler-compatible ceilings, mesh size 2 x 4 mm or 3 x 3 mm. The fabric covering is to be of one layer only and braced horizontally.

Closed ceilings of up to 30 m² per stand, however no more than 50 % of the stand area may be used without further compensation measures. Minimum spacing of 1.50 m to the aisles of the stand shall be maintained. If several ceiling areas of 30 m² are used, the distance between 2 such areas must be at least 3.00 m. Closed ceilings over 30 m² require compensation measures and must be inspected and approved in advance. Possible compensation measures are e.g. fire alarm systems and wall hydrants. Corresponding equipment shall be installed by contractors of Messe Frankfurt, and exhibitors shall be charged for their einstallation. Soundproof booths must additionally - irrespective of their size - either allow visual contact to the outside or feature an optical signal system combined with an alarm button or an emergency switch outside the booth.

DECHEMA will be pleased to help you if you require more information or assis-tance.

2.8 Lighting

Light fittings must be adjusted so that there is no glare in the aisles. They may not be attached to the company signboards provided by DECHEMA. They must be designed and installed so that the light or heat does not disturb people outside the stand area.

2.9 Suspensions from the Hall Ceiling

Approval may be given on request to attach cross-beams with or without additional lighting or ceiling sails to the hall ceiling above the stand space. They may not be attached to stand structures. The installation must be carried out by the electrician responsible for the hall in question.

Prices for suspensions in halls 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 5.0, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 10.1 and 10.2 are given under the button 'Exhibitor Services', 'Technical Services'. In halls 1.2, 3.0, 3.1, Forum Fo 0 and Fo 1, suspended lighting involves a considerable amount of work. Please also contact DECHEMA for these hall levels so that the feasibility can be checked with Messe Frankfurt and, if applicable, an individual quotation can be made. In hall 8.0 suspensions are not possible since the overhead gantry crane must remain operable. It is also not possible to have suspensions in halls 5.1 and 10.0.

No other types of suspensions from hall ceilings and other structural parts of the halls, such as supports, roof trusses, ceiling grids, sprinkler pipes and sprinkler nozzles, are permitted.

2.10 Foundations / Underground Installations

Foundations for exhibits or removal of the hall floors need the prior ap-proval of DECHEMA.
The work may be carried out only by DECHEMA's contractors. Exhibitors may request an estimate using the form "Check of Exhibits / Use of Dangerous Media". The costs are borne by the exhibitor.

The installation of utilities (water / waste water, electricity, compressed air) under hall floors is only possible on hall levels 4.0, 8.0, 9.0 and in the outdoor area.

2.11 Air Conditioning

No air conditioning equipment is allowed in the halls at all.

2.12 Stand Design in the Outdoor Area

Please note that, in some parts, the ground in the outdoor area has a steep declivity, thus it cannot be assumed that it is level or even.

Constructions in the outdoor area are subject to approval. Dimensioned stand plans to an appropriate scale, however at least 1:100, with ground plans and elevations, must be submitted in duplicate for approval by 28 February 2006 at the latest.

Once the stand plans have been checked one copy is returned to the exhibitor with an "Approved" stamp. Only stand plans bearing a stamp of approval enti-tle the exhibitor to erect the stand. The following documents are required in German:

a. Inspected or complete static calculations in accordance with German stan-dards
b. Construction description
c. Stand construction drawings to an appropriate scale, e.g. 1:100 (ground plans, elevations, sections)
d. On presentation of a type test/service book, items a, b and c can be disregarded.

DECHEMA appoints an engineering office to make the inspection at the exhibitor's cost. If no, or only incomplete, static calculations are available the exhibitor will also be charged for the engineer's calculation.
The stress analyst will contact the stand manager in due course on site in order to check and approve the stand construction. The exhibitor will be charged for the costs involved in obtaining the construction permit.
Additional costs may be incurred for approval by the building inspection authority of Frankfurt (Bauaufsichtsbehörde Frankfurt) on site, if applicable.

Stand design in the outdoor area is subject to the same regulations as indoor stands except that the maximum construction height is 10.00 m.
Furthermore, please note that the building inspection authority of the city of Frankfurt must be notified of movable constructions, e.g. tents over 100 m² or a height of more than 5.00 m. A fee is payable for this inspection.
The relevant form and instructions can be obtained by e-mail: timo.becker@stadt-frankfurt.de.
Company signboards in the outdoor area are only provided on request. If no signboards are required, the stand structure may extend to the stand limit.

Caravans and camping tents are not permitted as a substitute for stand struc-tures.

3. Exhibits

3.1 Set-up of Exhibits

The exhibitor is fully responsible for the stability and operational safety of all exhibits, equipment and installations and may be requested to provide supporting evidence. The exhibitor is liable for all consequences connected with the display of exhibits and bears the costs of all safety measures.

DECHEMA urgently recommends you to have all exhibits inspected that exceed the permitted load-bearing capacity of the floor (cf. button 'Exhibition Grounds') or whose stability is questionable on account of their size/height (see form "Check of Exhibits / Use of Dangerous Media" under the button 'Ap-proval Stand Construction / Exhibits').

The following details are required for the inspection: drawings, including sections, dimensions, weight distribution, and a static calculation in accor-dance with German standards. If a static inspection is necessary or if no static calculation is available although required for the inspection, DECHEMA will order a static calculation and/or an inspection by a contractor at the exhibitor's expense.

The following points must be observed with regard to the height, length, width and weight of exhibits and any necessary transport vehicles:

- the load-bearing capacity of the hall floors
- hall height
- heights below crane bridges (only hall 8.0)
- load-bearing capacity of the lifts
- dimensions of lift cabins
- load distribution

All information is given under the button 'Exhibiton Grounds'.

DECHEMA reserves the right to order an inspection by a structural engineer on the spot at the exhibitor's expense if any doubt arises as to the stability of exhibits. The engineer may impose safety measures or even close the ex-hibit.

3.2 Presentations

Equipment, installations and presentations designed to attract the attention of visitors require individual approval.

Presentations may only be used to illustrate the features and function of exhibits. The volume may not exceed 70 dB(A). If background music is planned, please note the conditions of GEMA (Society for Musical Performance and Me-chanical Reproduction Rights: GEMA Bezirksdirektion; Abraham-Lincoln-Str. 20, 65189 Wiesbaden, GERMANY or P.O. Box 26080, 65016 Wiesbaden, GERMANY; Tel.: +49-(0)6 11-79 05-0, Fax: +49-(0)6 11-79 05-97, www.gema.de).

Multimedia equipment, including any exhibits involved, may not exceed the permissible stand construction height. The location of such equipment is to be selected so that visitors can enter the stand, thus ensuring that the aisles remain unobstructed.

The use of laser equipment for advertising or decorative purposes is prohib-ited.

If the above-mentioned conditions are not fulfilled or the exhibition is disturbed, DECHEMA has the right to ban the use of such equipment. The ex-hibitor has no right to compensation.

4. Safety Regulations

4.1 Fire Extinguishers

Every stand must be equipped with at least one PG 6 fire extinguisher, suit-able for fire classes A, B and C according to DIN 14406, or to EN 3 for class 13 A 89 B.

4.2 Noise Control in the Halls

Noise from the demonstration of exhibits may not exceed a level of 70 dB(A). Exhibits or demonstrations of any kind with higher noise levels are only permitted in the outdoor area. Failure to comply with this stipulation enti-tles DECHEMA to shut down exhibits. The exhibitor cannot claim compensation as a result of this action.

4.3 Exhaust Gases

DECHEMA must be given written notification in connection with the stand ap-proval procedure of the generation of exhaust gas of any kind. Under no circumstances may exhaust gases be emitted directly or indirectly into the halls.

Exhaust gas removal systems may be installed on a stand by a company's own skilled personnel, but must then be approved by the technician assigned by DECHEMA. Installations outside the stand may only be undertaken by one of DECHEMA's contractors. The costs are borne by the exhibitor.

4.4 Regulations on the Display and Operation of Machinery and Equipment (technical equipment)

Questions pertaining to the following regulations or general questions about labour safety, accident prevention or equipment safety should be addressed to

Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt
Abteilung Arbeitsschutz und Sicherheitstechnik

Exhibitors of technical equipment as defined in the German Equipment Safety Act (GSG) are required to observe both the Equipment Safety Act in the ver-sion valid at the time of the exhibition and the relevant harmonized regula-tions of the EU. The equipment must be operated correctly and the life and health of users and third parties may not be put at risk.

Under no circumstances may machines and equipment be demonstrated without the pertinent safety devices. If technical equipment is demonstrated in opera-tion, the components or safety devices may be made of transparent material, provided that the same degree of safety is guaranteed.

Electrical equipment, in particular heaters and resistance devices, are to be installed and operated in such a way that they do not represent a fire haz-ard. A distance of at least 0.40 m (on all sides) to flammable materials and objects must be observed. This distance may be reduced if shields or under-lays made of non-flammable materials are used which are suitable for prevent-ing heat transfer (e.g. ceramic underlays, fireproof plates, etc.).

On stands and structures where electrical heaters or resistance devices are operated at least one fire extinguisher (PG 6), suitable for fire categories A, B and C according to DIN 14406 or EN 3 class 13 A 89 B, must be easily visible, accessible and in working condition. If applicable, signs must be mounted in accordance with DIN 4066.

DECHEMA must be notified and subsequently approve the demonstration and op-eration of oil and gas burners and the use of flammable liquids, fuels and welding equipment.

Technical equipment may be subject to a visual inspection at any time during the exhibition. Should it be ascertained that the equipment does not comply with the requirements of the German Equipment Safety Act and the harmonized standards of the EU, the relevant regulatory authority may impose a fine or prohibit the exhibition of the equipment with immediate effect, even if it has already been set up for display.

In the case of certain machines and technical equipment, a CE sign is to be affixed as visible confirmation of compliance with the above regulations. German language versions of the EU certificate of conformity and the operat-ing instructions must be kept available by the exhibitor on the stand to verify compliance with the relevant regulations.

In accordance with German law (GSG § 3a), demonstration equipment and machin-ery that does not comply with valid EU regulations may be exhibited at fairs, exhibitions, demonstrations and similar events provided a visible sign clearly indicates that the equipment does not comply with these requirements and can only be purchased once the manufacturer or his agent in the EU has redressed the situation. The sign must be worded as follows:
"This product does not comply with the requirements of the Equipment Safety Act (GSG) and cannot be purchased until the product has been made to comply with the Equipment Safety Act."

DECHEMA has the right to prohibit the demonstration and exhibition of technical equipment at any time if it considers that it represents a danger or a nuisance. This does not affect the right of the relevant regulatory authority to prohibit the use of the equipment in accordance with § 5 of the German Technical Equipment Act.

4.5 Use of Dangerous Media

Flammable liquids, industrial gases, liquefied gas systems, compressed gas cylinders, pressure vessels, compressed gas cans (spray cans), hazardous materials, steam boilers, radioactive materials, X-ray equipment and spurious radiation sources must comply with the regulations in force at the time of the exhibition.

DECHEMA must be given written notification of the amount and type. For reasons of safety and fire prevention, safety measures may be imposed or less hazardous media required.

These documents are to be obtained before work is commenced and completed on site together with a person appointed by Messe Frankfurt Venue GmbH & Co. KG.

Wood machining or sanding on the stand is only permitted if provision is made for the extraction of the sawdust since, according to the Ordinance on Hazardous Substances, it represents a potential hazard.

The use of spray guns and nitrocellulose lacquer is prohibited in all the exhibition halls, as is that of nail guns.

The use of fork-lifts and cranes is reserved to DECHEMA's contracted forwarding agents.

5. Technical Provision

5.1 Water / Electrical / Compressed Air Installations

DECHEMA's contracting firms only may install the main electrical, water and compressed air connections from the exhibition mains to the stand (cf. Electrical, Water, Compressed Air Installations, under the button 'Exhibitor Services', 'Technical Services').

All installations inside the stand may be carried out either by DECHEMA's contractors or by other qualified technicians. In the latter case all work carried out must be inspected by one of DECHEMA's contractors.

All water, gas and electrical installations are to be carried out in compliance with the regulations (VDE and DVGW guidelines). DECHEMA assumes the right to close down any installations that contravene these regulations until the deficiencies have been remedied.

In the case of compressed air installations, the noise control regulations, the Regulation of industrial safety (Betriebssicherheitsverordnung) and the relevant technical regulations on pressure vessels are to be observed without exception.

DECHEMA is not liable for any damage to exhibits or to other property of an exhibitor caused by faulty power supply or disposal (water/waste water, power, compressed air, industrial gases).

The exhibitor is fully liable for any damage, caused by defective installations, to Messe Frankfurt's halls and buildings or parts thereof or to the stands and exhibits of other exhibitors.

5.2 Industrial Gases

DECHEMA must be notified in writing by 3 April 2006 at the latest of all gases to be used on the stand. If a company's own liquid gas or compressed-air cylinders are used, DECHEMA must be informed in writing of the quantity and type.

All compressed and liquid gas cylinders used must be colour-coded according to the German codes of practice and the current regulations. At stands where compressed air or liquid gas vessels are located a warning sign according to DIN 4844 must indicate this.

In the halls, only gas cylinders with a maximum charge of 11 kg may be used. All stockpiling in the halls is prohibited. If it is necessary to use several cylinders, the combined charge of all cylinders may not exceed 11 kg. Only cylinders with approved safety valves may be used. In accordance with the pertinent accident prevention regulations, compressed gas cylinders must be well secured so that they cannot fall over and be protected from impacts, heat, and access by unauthorized persons.
Liquid gas operated systems must be fitted with a gas failure device.

The connecting lines between the cylinders and the equipment must be encased in metal pipes. In the case of portable equipment, flexible, metal-reinforced tubing may be used within the stand area. Equipment must be mounted on a work surface made of a non-flammable material. There must be a gap of at least 2 m between the exhibit and the cylinders. If this is not possible, adequate thermal insulation must be provided.

6. Other Information

DECHEMA and its contractual partners are responsible for handling waste disposal. Exhibitors may either take all waste with them or order waste disposal from DECHEMA.

Hazardous waste (e.g. batteries, varnishes, solvents, lubricants, paint, etc.) must be reported to DECHEMA and proper disposal ordered.

Pollution caused, for example, by fuel, oil, solvents and paint, is to be reported to the hall inspector concerned without delay.

The exhibitor is bound to ensure that all rules and regulations pertaining to the environment are adhered to by himself and his agents.
